Breeding Ewe Reservation Deposit

We have been selectively breeding our flock since 2016 with a focus on parasite resistance, strong maternal traits, and overall flock health. Our sheep are primarily Katahdin, a hair breed known for easy lambing, low maintenance, and adaptability.

Each ewe is supported by detailed records, including lineage (mother and grandmother), birth date, birth weight, litter size (single, twin, or triplet), vaccination weight, average daily weight gain, and any health history. This information ensures you are selecting a productive and reliable addition to your flock.

Pricing & Reservation

Breeding ewe pricing varies by animal, typically ranging from $300 to $500.

A $125 deposit secures your place in line and gives you priority when selecting from available ewes at Montgomery Sheep Farm. Once your reservation is confirmed, we will provide an estimated pickup window. Availability can range from immediate selection to a wait of up to six months, depending on the season and demand.

Cancellation Policy

• Cancellations made more than 30 days before your scheduled pickup date are eligible for a refund, minus a $10 credit card processing fee.

• Cancellations within 30 days of pickup, or failure to pick up your ewe, will result in a forfeited deposit.

Pickup & Payment

The remaining balance is due in cash at the time of pickup.

Animal Care & Standards

Our lambs are raised in accordance with Animal Welfare Approved (AWA) standards, without the use of antibiotics or harmful chemicals. They are pasture-raised in a natural environment that supports a diverse, nutrient-rich diet and protects against seasonal stress. This approach produces healthy, fertile ewes well-suited for long-term flock productivity.

The Katahdin breed is a wool-less, easy care, meat type sheep, naturally tolerant of climatic extremes and capable of high performance in a wide variety of environments. The purpose of the breed is to efficiently produce meat.

The covering of the Katahdin does not require shearing and is preferably completely free of permanent wooly fibers. The coat can be any color or pattern. 

Katahdins are a heavy-muscled, medium-sized breed. They demonstrate adaptability by performing well in areas varying in geography, temperature, and humidity, feed and forage resources, and management systems. Ewes are easy lambers, and exhibit strong maternal instincts and good milking ability. They possess high potential for early puberty, fertility, and lamb survivability. Mature ewes often have twins, and occasionally triplets.  A well-managed and selected flock should produce a 200% lamb crop.

Lambs grow and mature rapidly to an acceptable market weight range and produce relatively lean and well muscled carcasses with a very mild flavor.
