About the Farm

The Montgomery Sheep Farm is situated on a 200 acre tract of land in Biscoe, NC surrounded by forests of pine. We are a certified Animal Welfare Approved farm that employs rotational grazing and regenerative farming techniques to raise lamb without anti-biotics or toxic chemicals. The farm offers a farm cabin available to rent for family farm stays and modern facilities to host weddings, corporate events, and other community gatherings.

The Montgomery Sheep Farm has been recognized by the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association in the Business Innovation Award and Community Initiative Award and most recently as the Solar Ranch of the Year by the North American Agrivoltaic Association. It demonstrates the nexus between clean energy generation with its 28 Megawatt that powers the town of Biscoe and Star, and sustainable agriculture in raising sheep, chickens, peacocks, great pyrenees, ducks and other animals.

The property previously served as a family farm, hunting lodge, and many of the original structures remain intact and have been repurposed.

THE SHEEP FARM

Our property is first and foremost a sheep farm. We have approximately 500 head of lamb and our herd is constantly growing. We also host Peacocks, turkeys, Great Pyrenees dogs, farm cats, chickens, ducks and Geese..

Our herd sustainably maintains the grounds of the solar farm. Salami and other products are available for purchase on our farm and from Sunraised Foods.

AWARDS

Montgomery Sheep Farm won The North American Agrivoltaics 2024 Solar Ranch of the Year award. This is an annual campaign to discover, elevate, and celebrate outstanding achievements in the advancement of dual-use solar development in North America.

Going Off Grid

In 2018, Montgomery Sheep Farm completed an ambitious project to take the farming operations and residential buildings entirely off the grid in order to demonstrate the feasibility of renewable energy and micro-grid technology. We are powered by a 25kW solar photovoltaic array coupled with 53 kWh of Tesla batteries.

The property was originally acquired during the development of Montgomery Solar farm, a 20MW utility-scale solar power plant owned by O2 emc.
